LifeNets Provides Humanitarian Support for Ukrainian War Victims through "Revival" Centre in Chernihev
We have worked with the Revival Centre of Medical/Social Rehabilitation for Disabled Children in Chernihev, Ukraine since 1996. We have had made many wonderful visits to see a group of pediatricians who established a center to help many children, many affected by the nearby (30 miles) Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident in 1986. Our helping in Chernobyl led to the establishing of LifeNets in 1999 and we have been helping ever since. This year the tragedy extends to the war that the Russians are inflicting on Ukraine.
One particularly ugly development is that the Russians are sending in squads of Chechniyans. The Chechniyans are Islamic and are noted for cruelty. The Russians fought against them and after the collapse of the Soviet Union fought against them in two wars - 1994-1996 and 1999-2000) and subdued them. Now, they are using them to commit atrocities in the war against Ukraine.
The Revival Centre for has taken in children and others from the Donetsk war zone. Here is a letter we just received from the founder Dr. Vasyl Pasichnyk.

Dear friends Victor and Beverly,
With pain in my heart I will not write about the achievements and successes of our Center (which are many), but about the terrible crimes, bandits, separatists and Russian mercenaries in our land. In Chernihiv we are mourning for the dead six young fighters who were inhabitants of our city. There are 20 wounded as well as missing and prisoners. They are all volunteers who defended Ukraine from aggressors. Among them was brought to the hospital the son of our senior nurse - with a contusion. We help both soldiers and their families.

The "Revival" Center through your funds has helped rehabilite 24 children from the Donbass area. Mothers were very wary at first, not sure about the sincerity of our employees to help them. This was because of Russian propaganda. Currently there are no Ukrainian TV channels. However, they soon "thawed" and believed in our sincere kindness to them.
We are very grateful to you and Beverly for your help - without it we would not have been able to help so many children who have become disabled from the war zone. For 30 children living in the area of Kulikov (this is 35 km from Chernihiv) we provided gifts and warm clothes (jackets, sweaters) and shoes. 28 families with children living in Chernihev also received assistance and 11 families - whose children were born in Chernigov received special kits for babies. We provided assistance to children whose fathers died defending Ukraine. The people who arrived here from the war zone came from occupied towns and village with only their children and a minimum of things. Those who remained were elderly who refused to leave their homes (those that were not destroyed by shelling). Recently shelling was intensified and people are living in basements. There is not enough food and medicine. The convoys of "humanitarian aid" directed by Putin brought only fuel for tanks and ammunition.
Today I talked with a mother from Gorlovka Donetsk region. Her child is one year 11 months with cerebral palsy. They are displaced, now temporarily living in Kiev. They really enjoy coming to our Center. The boy has begun to walk and has improved his speech. The mother wants to move permanently to Chernihiv so the child can be treated at the Center. She also told of the horrific details of the crimes occupiers (mostly Chechens from Russia of Kadyrov). Ukrainian soldier prisoners had their eyes plucked out and were castrated. They are now at a military hospital Vinnytsia. Their relatives are fearful that some of them will commit suicide.
Recently I phoned a doctor - child psychiatrist from Donetsk about working together. Of course, we agreed.
There is now heavy fighting near the town. Debaltseve Donetsk region. Two trains of refugees arrived in Kiev. They will be placed in our Chernihiv and Zhytomyr and Vinnytsia regions. Of course we will do everything we can to help these people.
We truly appreciate your help, you always helped our disadvantaged children and have helped people who find themselves in this trouble because of Putin's war.

Дорогі друзі Вікторе і Беверлі,
З болем у серці пишемо вам не про досягнення і успіхи нашого Центру (яких дуже багато), а про страшні злочини бандитів, сепаратистів і російських найманців на нашій землі. В Чернігові траур за 6 загиблими молодими бійцями – мешканців нашого міста, 20 поранених, є зниклі без вісті і полонені. Всі вони добровольці , які захищали Україну від агресорів. Серед доставлених до шпиталю є син нашої старшої медичної сестри – в нього контузія. Ми як можемо допомагаємо бійцям, їх родинам.
В Центрі «Відродження» за ваші кошти вже пройшли реабілітацію 24 дитини з Донбасу. Всі мами спочатку були дуже насторожені, не впевнені у щирості наших співробітників їм допомогти – це наслідки російської пропаганди, адже там відсутні українські телеканали. Проте, скоро вони «відтанули» - повірили в доброту і щире співчуття до них.
Ми дуже вдячні тобі і Беверлі за вашу допомогу – без цього ми не змогли би допомагати багатьом дітям – інвалідам із зони проведення АТО. Для 30 дітей, що проживають в Куликівському районі (це 35 км від Чернігова) надано новорічні подарунки, а також теплий одяг (куртки, кофти), взуття. Для 28 родин з дітьми (переселенців), що проживають зараз в Чернігові також отримали допомогу, а 11 сімей – переселенців, в яких народилися діти вже в Чернігові, отримали й спеціальні набори для новонароджених. Надано допомогу і дітям, батьки яких загинули захищаючи Україну. Про долі людей, що приїхали до нас із зони проведення АТО, можна сказати наступне – всі вони виїжджали з окупованих міст і сіл, рятуючи своє життя, з дітьми і мінімумом речей. У деяких там залишились старі батьки, які відмовились залишати свої домівки (ті, що не було зруйновано снарядами). Останнім часом посилились артобстріли, люди мешкають у підвалах. Не вистачає їжі, медикаментів. А ті конвої гуманітарної допомоги, що направляє Путін, привозять паливо для танків, боєприпаси.
Я сьогодні спілкувалась з мамою з Горлівки Донецької області, у неї дитина, 1 рік 11 міс., Дитячий церебральний параліч. Вони є вимушеними переселенцями, зараз тимчасово проживають в Києві, мають невеликий бізнес. В нашому Центрі їм дуже подобається. Хлопчик починає ходити, покращилось мовлення. Мама цієї дитини мріє переїхати на постійне проживання до Чернігова, аби дитина могла постійно лікуватися в Центрі. Вона також розповіла жахливі подробиці злочинів окупантів (переважно – чеченці - кадировці з Росії), які полоненим українським бійцям виколюють очі, каструють молодих чоловіків. Зараз ці хлопці на лікуванні у Вінницькому воєнному шпиталі, а близькі бояться їх суїциду.
Недавно мені телефонувала лікар – дитячий психіатр з Донецька щодо працевлаштування, звичайно, ми погодились.
Зараз дуже важкі бої йдуть під м. Дебальцеве Донецької області, звідти до Києва прибули два потяги біженців – вони будуть розміщені в нашій Чернігівській, а також Житомирській, Вінницькій областях. Звичайно, ми підключимось до допомоги цим людям.
Ми щиро вдячні вам за допомогу, ви завжди допомагаєте нашим знедоленим дітям, а зараз долучились до допомоги людям, які опинились в біді через війну Путіна.
