Meets with Soong Ching Ling Foundation Leaders

In April 2001 I had the privilege of participating in a nursing study tour to China.

Along with twenty-seven other nurses, I left San Francisco on April 12. After the long flight, and a good night's rest, we visited the Forbidden City. Over the next few days we were able to visit many other famous sites including the Ming Tombs, the Summer Palace, Tian'anmen Square, Temple of Heaven and the amazing Great Wall. We even had a trip to the Beijing Zoo to the see the pandas. On Sunday afternoon we attended to our professional agenda by touring two of the local hospitals. At the first hospital, we had the opportunity to speak with some of the local nurses and doctors, and compare our styles of nursing practice. The second hospital allowed us to participate in being diagnosed by some traditional Chinese doctors.

Near the end of the week, after many sightseeing adventures and experiencing the culture of China, I was able to meet with some representatives from the Soong Ching Ling Foundation (SCLF). I had the pleasure of meeting with Bai Jie, Vice Secretary General of SCLF. Also participating in the discussion were Deng Hongqin and Wang Dandan, both deputy directors of the Liason Department. We had an encouraging conversation regarding the cooperation of the SCLF, UCG and Youth Corps International in projects involving young adults from the Youth Corps. The discussion ended in a positive way with Bai Jie stating that he looked forward to our open communication and forming a plan for a project as soon as we could.

I personally was very encouraged after meeting with the representatives from SCLF. I believe that God has some plans for us in this part of the world and we have been given a wonderful opportunity for His service. Bai Jie spoke very highly of Mr. Armstrong, the Ambassador Foundation and was very impressed by his meeting with Victor Kubik last year. I hope and pray that we will be able start the ball rolling on this project very soon. I look forward to providing any further collaboration on this project if it's  needed. I thank God for the great blessing He gave me to participate in this experience.
