March 20, 2005
Investigative Trip to Jordan July/August 2005
LifeNets is committing to continue working with mentally challenged children in Jordan through the Young Muslim Women's Association. We are happy to work with World Of Opportunity founder Cory Erickson who along with his family have been long-time friends.
Our fundraiser on Sunday, March 20th in Minnesota was a huge success and will give us the vital boost we need to implement LifeNets' mission. We want to share Cory Erickson's description:
letter to us from Princess Sarvath El Hassan
A warm and energetic group of 45 people gathered on Sunday, March 20 in Oakdale, Minnesota for a fundraising event dedicated to the YMWA Centre for Special Education in Amman, Jordan. The fundraiser was jointly-sponsored by the Minnesota-based World of Opportunity, Inc. (WOO) and LifeNets as a part of the 2005 YMWA Fundraising Campaign. By all accounts, the fundraiser was extremely successful and exceeded all its objectives, including its financial targets. The goal for the 2005 campaign is to raise $5,000 to help meet the student educational requirements, including teacher funding, school supplies, food, and transportation. Thanks to the many generous patrons and donors, the campaign has already met and exceeded its financial goals by a significant margin.
The event was hosted by Cory Erickson, a co-founder of WOO, and included a special presentation on LifeNets by Victor Kubik, founder and president of LifeNets. The program also included a presentation on the YMWA Centre, a video on the school done by Jordanian Television, and beautiful vocal solos by Kelbe Carlson, a local performer, and Colene Erickson. Warm fellowship and enthusiastic conversation about the cause was enjoyed at social sessions both at the beginning and end of the event.
The Young Muslim Women's Association (YMWA) of Jordan is a nonprofit, voluntary organization established in 1972 under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sarvath El Hassan. Since its establishment, the association has focused on the educational and developmental needs of the mentally challenged in Jordanian society. In response to these important social needs, the YMWA established in 1974 the Centre for Special Education in Bunayat, Jordan as its flagship institution. The school serves children in grades K-12, many of whom come from disadvantaged families, and has a strong emphasis on the development of vocational skills that help the students to become self-sufficient.
