Blankets for Malawi, Africa
We are now working on sending another 40 foot container from Minneapolis, Minnesota to Malawi.
It will be sent to Gladstone and Alice Chonde who operate a private clinic in impoverished Malawi. The clinic is very small and the only workers are the Chonde's, a receptionist, and a watchman. In the first five years of their operation they have treated over 130,000 people sometimes seeing a 150 patients a day. There is a constant need for medication.
Without the love and hard work of Mr. and Mrs. Chonde, many people would not have medical help and even die. At this time they are expanding to include a much needed birthing center. They have a tremendous need for sheets, pillows, blankets, towels, etc.
Here's one thing you can do to help
Donations of linens are welcome. Another source of bedding are motels that are replacing their worn or slightly damaged linens and blankets with new ones. Anyone who has a little spare time and a phone, can call motels to see if they have anything. We have developed a standard script for everyone to use that would like to help out.
First ask to speak to the manager. The desk clerk will probably not be able to help you.
After getting the manager,
Hello, my name is _______________________ and I am working with a non-profit organization called LifeNets. LifeNets is building a medical clinic in Malawi, Africa. There is an urgent need for blankets and bedding for this medical clinic. If you happen to have any old blankets, or blankets and bedding that you are going to replace, we can use every single one. We are shipping by container and have lots of room to ship items like this. If you have anything available, when would be a good time to come and pick them up?
LifeNets is 501 (c) (3) publicly held charity and you can receive a tax deduction for your donation.
After accumulating any blankets or bedding they can be shipped to either of the following addresses, Parcel Post or UPS.
