A Special Thank You From Dyanne Dick
for Malawi Bedding Collection
in the Pacific Northwest!

March 20, 2001

After many months of collecting bedding for the Malawi clinic, we were finally able to have our items shipped to Minneapolis from here in the Northwest.

Thanks to Belinda McCloud for her coordination our our shipment, and for the efforts of Alton Dacus working with shippers, we were able to get our supplies to Minneapolis in time to load them on the container. Alton did a lion's share of work, coordinating each collection site's shipping arrangements. Because of the nature of the donations, shipping weights were high, and Alton was able to secure the shipped at a much reduced price. Belinda was great to work with, and able to answer all of our questions!

I want to give special thanks to Brenda Messerly from Portland, Oregon who not only coordinated our local collection, but also worked with the Eugene, Jefferson and Bend congregations to ensure all of our boxes arrived at the same time at the shipping dock for shipment. Many of our members here from the East and West churches collected donations from local motels and hotels. Noel Hornor coordinated the collection from the West Church.

A very hearty thank is due to all of those who coordinated the donations from the respective areas! We had Anne Robinson from Seattle, Washington, Randy and Linda Stiver from Eugene, Oregon, Mr. and Mrs. Cole, Mr. and Mrs. Miller from the Jefferson, Oregon area, and Mr. Slocum from Bend, Oregon.

These above mentioned people along with volunteers from their areas, worked hard on this project. After collecting the items, there was counting, boxing and labeling, and then storing the items. In order to keep our shipping costs down, we had to use a different size box than what most of us had boxed our supplies in to begin  with. Se we had to have "reboxing" parties. more counting, and more labeling. the we had to store the boxes for a few months before shipping could take place. But, when the word came from Alton to deliver them to the various shipping docs, we were all ready!

Everyone was happy to participate in this project and asking when can we do this again. We await news that our shipment arrives safely in Malawi and that they will find all the supplies they need for their new clinic.

With much thanks,

Dyanne
