Bill and Cheryl Jahns along with UCG Salt Lake and Boise Support Malawi

UPDATED August 15, 1997

From Bill Jahns:

I just returned from the University of Utah Hospital. We have a large bag of hospital gowns that the University normally throws away. They probably could be used by the clinic. If you think they will be useful, I will send them for the container for Malawi. Cheryl and I can get them every week or so if they can be used. We could ship them directly from here.

Also, we talked to some of the administrators there and they thought we had a great project. We have several more contacts there and hope to be able to get more free drugs, etc. for Malawi. We may even be able to get some used hospital equipment. I will keep you informed.

MALAWI UPDATE

We are pleased to announce that contact was recently made with Gladstone Chonde in Malawi. Shipments are now being made on a regular basis to the Malakia Clinic. Some of the items included in the shipments are as follows: Erythromycin tablets, Cephalexin tablets, Amoxicillin, Methyldopa, Penicillin, and sulfatrim pediatric suspension.

Also, a large container is being prepared to send to Malawi courtesy of the U. S. Government. Donations for this container are needed. Be sure to contact us if you have items that can be included in this container.

More shipments of medicines are being prepared for Malawi at this time.

Bill Jahns, pastor of UCG's Salt Lake City, Utah , Boise, Idaho and Baker City, Oregon churches, along with his wife Cheryl are going to help with the Malawi project. Cheryl has had years of medical experience working as an administrative assistant.

Bill and Cheryl are going to help with shipping medicine to Malakai Clinic which is run by Gladstone and Alice Chonde. We work with Compassion Humanitarian Relief and other agencies to deliver life-sustaining humanitarian aid to this overcrowded and poor country. Bill Jahns is available at billjahns@kubik.org and can be reached simply by clicking here.

This past week we had email contact with Meshach Chonde, Gladstone and Alice's son, who works as a computer and software trainer in Lilongwe. This will be a very important tool in our communications as telephone and FAX are almost impossible and snail mail takes forever.

More information and progress reports will be forthcoming......please come back and visit the Africa section often for reports from Bill Jahns and myself.
