Malawi Update

Greetings from Dyanne Dick --

We have been negotiating with a member who works for a shipping company. The company is willing to ship the blankets from Seattle to Minneapolis for free. Yes!! But,

we must take the boxes to a warehouse to be placed on pallets and then shrink wrapped before they can be shipped. We are hoping to have this done by the end of next week. Then they can be shipped. All of these steps have taken time.

I will call you or Bev when the truck is leaving and let you know the expected arrival date.

Happy that the shipment was finally approved! And I received the copies you mailed just today. Bob was very warmed to read the Chonde's responses. I'll read them this evening.

By way of suggestion, the family working on the blanket project locally, suggested that if different areas collected money donations, that the money could then be used to go to the St. Paul, Salvation, Volunteers of America type thrift stores in Minneapolis and buy blankets. On Sundays, the ladies here would go to the thrift stores. That was the day, things were 1/2 price, so the money went further. They found some decent blankets to contribute. Just a thought, because then we wouldn't have to worry about the shipping costs.

I think our summer is over, but it was a great summer for Seattle. Look forward to hearing from you.

Dyanne

From Vic Kubik:

This past month we received necessary documentation from the Malawi Department of Health regarding shipping our container. This was vital paperwork that makes it possible to ship this container free (to us) to Lilongwe, Malawi.

We're down to our last month or two before the big 40 foot 20 ton container leaves Minnesota for Malawi.

Boxes have been coming in from you to our warehouse. We had over 15 boxes full of blankets just come in in the last week or so.

Do you nee an address of where to ship? It is:

This last week I received a call from Mr. Dennis Mzembe, a reporter from one of Malawi's two major newspapers visiting the United States from Malawi. He visited this website and saw the different things we're doing in Malawi and gave us a lot of support and helpful advice for what we are doing to help.

We discussed what's needed for Malawi. He told me that some of the items badly needed are

Again, we are in last-minute mode. We would like to ask for contributions to complete filling the container. Tax-deductible cash gifts will be GREATLY APPRECIATED. Every dollar will buy $40 worth of life-sustaining humanitarian aid. You WILL SAVE lives.

If you can help us with completely tax-deductible contributions to help collect more items for Malawi and place on the containers headed that way, we would greatly appreciate it. You can send your contributions to

Again, contributions are fully tax-deductible.
