Killarney, Manitoba Concert Benefits
LifeNets Latin America Scholarship FundJune 19, 2002
Dr. Ian Simons and his wife Mariana of Killarney, Manitoba organized a fundraiser concert for LifeNets. They raised nearly $300 that will be used for our Latin America Scholarship Program. Their contribution provided the tuition for one student's tuition in El Salvador for attending the university for one year.
The concert was composed of classical music with many of the local people performing, including Mariana Simons on the piano.
The turnout of a few hundred people was excellent. The concert included children's choirs, a few groups and several individuals who performed. The music was a mixture of a classical music and lighter music and it seemed to go down well. There were some very accomplished performers with one or two outstanding performances. It is surprising how much talent can be present in a small community of a few thousand (about five thousand including surrounding farms).
We at LifeNets are indeed moved by this wonderful gesture and generous donation.
Below is the local newspaper's account of the fundraiser concert.
Thank you, Simons! Thank you Killarney!
