Sedro-Woolley Saves "Pennies for Education"
From the January 2004 United News
The Sedro-Woolley, Washington, congregation recently donated $1,600 to LifeNets. When the children in the Sabbath school classes heard how LifeNets helped children in poor countries get an adequate education, they wanted to help. So in the fall of 2003, they began "Pennies for Education"—dropping pennies and other spare change into a donation box each Sabbath.
In one year, the children raised about $150. Quite a few adult members have been very supportive of this and their contributions brought the total to $1,600. It has been a good experience in further learning compassion and generosity.
This year's project is to raise money to help pay for the training of an "assistance dog," a dog assigned to a handicapped person to give 24/7 help to that person as well as provide good companionship.
