Malawi Container Update

You may be able to help with some items you no longer need

The entire story about our Malawi Aid Project

September 17, 1998

Thanks for your responses to helping with office equipment for the Malakia Clinic run by UCG member Gladstone Chonde.   We have been given two tan metal office desks and one 4'x5' white board that has cork-lined doors that swing open from the middle.    This will be helpful.  If there are any other items, please contact me at malawi@kubik.org.  Or give me a call at 317 216-0802.  We hope to ship the container shortly after the Festival this fall from St. Paul, Minnesota.   A receipt for tax purposes will be issued for items donated.

We have sent Mr. Chonde a FAX machine to improve our contact with him.  We have only been able to communicate via letter and that takes a very long time.

Bill Jahns

Bill Jahns, pastor of Salt Lake City and Boise just received a letter from Gladstone Chonde.  I'd like to quote som of it here:

Malakia Clinic
Lilongwe, Malawi

August 28, 1998

Dear Mr. Bill Jahns,

Thank you very much for the FAX that you sent us in May. We received it two days ago. Our clinic is a FAX machine richer!  Please convey our heartfelt thanks to the people who donated the machine [the Boise UCG congregation].  These are things we never dreamed that we would ever have, but the Bible says "seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteoussness and all these things shall be added unto you. It is true.

We thank God our Father who gives us good gifts through you whom He is using. I will go to the Telecom people to ask them to fix it for us and I will let you know the telephone number they will give us.

Meantime, we are busy preparing for the Feast in Zimbabwe.

Love and best wishes to you all,
Sincerely yours,

Gladstone and Alice Chonde

I also received a letter from Mr. Chonde who added the following:contain1.jpg (29187 bytes)

"My son Mark is working in Blantyre as a software support executive.  I gave him your address on the Internet and he saw the information about the container that you are sending to us. He was also able to get the information you have about Malakia clinic on your Web site and printed it out for us. We are looking forward to the arrival of the container."

Can you help us with some items you'd like to get rid and would like a tax deduction for????

If you have desks, file cabinets...file folders...anything that you would see in an office, this would be greatly appreciated.

If you can help out, please contact me at malawi@kubik.org.   Or please call me at 317 216-0802.  We would like it if you could ship the needed items to St. Paul, Minnesota close to the time the container is leaves so it can loaded without having to be stored. This is a wonderful opportunity to help with larger items because the US Government as part of an aid program will pay for shipping.

Thanks for your help!  Contributions are tax-deductible.  Please contact me for details.  Also, any financial contribution will go towards alst minute purchase of medicine.  We purchase medicine at 6% of cost, so each dollar donated will purchase about $16 worth of much-needed medication that will be used primarily for children.
