North Carolina Brethren Meet
with Ukrainian Sabbatarians

Report by Neal Brantley and Horst Obermeit

September 7, 1998

Neal Brantely and Horst Obermeit among others have been meeting with Ukrainian Sabbatarian refugees who settled in the United States.  This is the group that Victor Kubik first met with in 1991 in Port St. Lucie, Florida who have mostly moved to Raleigh, North Carolina.  They have been able to bring others of their family over from Ukraine. The story of their migration to the United States is told by clicking herebrant2.jpg (27602 bytes)

Among those migrating was their leader, Michael Palchey and his wife. His wife died shortly after they arrived in the United States in 1995.  Michael Palchey died in 1997.  Two of his grandchildren, Michael and Tamara Yurkiv attended and graduated from Ambassador University.

We had a very good Sabbath today (August 8th).  The Ukrainians came at 11:30AM and their service continued until about 1:30PM.  They brought food and members of the study group brought food and we shared food and fellowshipped with them until 2:30.  17 of them today.  We have plans to do the same next week. Their group will be larger next week; some were unable to come today.

Today August 29  I talked with Mikhail Yurkiv and Tamara and others.  I showed them copies of the pictures (they had not seen) which I sent you.  They had 21 present for their Sabbath Service.  Again today I talked with them about you coming and speaking to them and our Bible study at the same time. Mikhail was very recepetive to
the proposal.

Our small fellowship in Raleigh met with the Ukranians yesterday on the sabbath. Actually we shared the facility since we had been told they were looking for a place for sabbath services. They had services from 11:30 till 1:30.  Then we shared a pot lunch and got to meet them, and then they left before we started our interactive Bible study.

I had met Michael and his sister Tamara a few years ago when they were AC students or just after they graduated.  I met Mr. Palchey once in Raleigh before he died.

Bill Hillebrenner is a good friend for many years, and he has been staying in touch with the Ukranians.  He introduced me to Mr.Palchey.
