June 15, 2000
Since LifeNets established its office in Ukraine, one of its first projects has been to hold summer 2000 camp sessions in Shayan, about ten miles outside the city of Khust and snuggled right up up the Rumanian border in the beautiful Carpathian Mountains.
Carpathian Mountains
photo: A.Kliouchnik http://ex-travel.newmail.ruAt one time this area was an exclusive resort area for Communist Party leaders and camps only for their children...to the complete exclusion of children of minority or illegal faiths. One of those was the underground Sabbatarian Church which has existed in Transcarpathia since 1946 but since the fall of the Soviet Union has come out into the open.
For years children were deprived of the benefits of a government which did not tolerate its godless agenda. The local people watched as children from all over the Soviet Union were brought to the beautiful Carpathian mountains for recreation and education.
Now, it's time for the deprived families to enjoy their own beautiful natural Carpathian setting.
There will be a session of camp for children ages 8-12 at Shayan. There is a swimming pool, hiking and other sport and nature activities. There will be Christian Living classes taught. A chartered bus will transport the children to other scenic areas.

LifeNets Ukraine director Ivan Yurishko along with the Sabbatarian community of Khust/Rokosova are organizing this first summer of camps. The cost is minimal...three dollars a day per child which includes all food, lodging and other expenses.
