We have designated November 21-27, 1999 as the WEEK OF THANKS in Lafayette, Indiana. This is the fourth consecutive year that we are raising money for these two worthy causes. This year we are supporting the Breast Cancer Today Support Group and the Ukraine Revival Rehabilitation Center near Chernobyl that treats children victimized by the on ongoing effects of the world's worst nuclear accident. Cash proceeds from this fundraiser will be divided evenly between Breast Cancer Today and The Chernobyl Project administered by LifeNets. Victor Kubik directs LifeNets, a non-profit devoted to helping needy people in practical ways and to helping them become self-sufficient. Also giving his tireless support is Dr. Anthony Pacelli, director or the Pacelli Chiropractic & Health Complex in Lafayette.
On August 19, 1999 Dr. Vasil Pasechnik
of Chernihev, Ukraine meets with Indiana's
First Lady Judy O'Bannon at the Governor's
Mansion in Indianapolis. She presents him
with one of five special boxes especially
made for the First Lady from maple tree on the
mansion grounds. Our mission this year with the help of our local business, families, and individuals, is to raise $2,000 to help those who have nowhere else to turn. Shortly after Thanksgiving we have a ten ton container headed for the Ukraine Revival Rehabilitation Center founded by Vasil Pasechnik who was the chief pediatrician in the Chernobyl area during the nuclear accident. Dr. Vasil Pasechnik visited Indiana this past August and told his story to First Lady Judy O'Bannon in a two hour meeting. Money is badly needed to purchase some last minute items. For more information about the work we've done in Chernobyl go to the LifeNets section here on the WEB at www.lifenets.org/chernobyl.
Two ten ton containers of food, medical supplies and equipment have already been sent to Ukraine with a third about to go. We have been using State Department programs such as Operation Support Freedom and Operation Provide Hope which have paid for shipping. Help also comes from private donations, hospitals and clinics. We purchase medicine for 5-10% of it's actual value. With all this support, we are able to leverage every dollar donated by a factor of about 30 times. Each dollar contributed results in $30 aid actually delivered.
Much needed hospital supplies leaving for the
Chernobyl area after Thanksgiving 1999. Shown are
LifeNets supporters Trudi Scott and Sarah and
Jim Osborn of Fillmore, Indiana who contributed
warehouse space for storage.Breast Cancer Today Support Group, is a member the Indiana Face of Breast Cancer. This is a breast cancer advocacy group which is dependent on our personal resources and committed to educating the community, supporting individuals and their families who have been touched by breast cancer.
We are anticipating support from over 40 area businesses.
Please assist us this year by joining in this effort by being a Financial Supporter. If you would like to send your tax-deductible donation at this time to directly help these worthy causes, please make your check payable to The Chernobyl Fund and mail to

Talking about the WEEK OF THANKS
on WBAA radio Purdue. Victor Kubik (left)
being interviewed by Dave Naylor
Here is a brief description of the humanitarian work that has been done by Victor Kubik from the United Church of God in Lafayette in conjunction with Dr. Anthony J. Pacelli of Pacelli Chiropractic & Health Potential Complex, Lafayette, Indiana.
In the United States Victor Kubik has founded LifeNets to help needy people here and abroad in practical ways and to help them become self-sufficient. He has already sent over $450,000 of relief to victims of radiation. In this amount desperately needed medication to Chernobyl valued at nearly $250,000 was donated largely by a pharmaceutical company. The cost to us was was only 6% of this total. The relief that has been shipped has been in the form of medical equipment, medicine, food, clothing and money.Victor Kubik is also a board member of the International Chernobyl Children's Trust in the United Kingdom founded by British surgeon Maurice Frohn who speaks throughout the United Kingdom about the serious health problems caused by radiation from the April 26, 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster. Kubik and Frohn have traveled together to Chernobyl three times since April 1996 and have seen first-hand the desperate needs, especially for children affected by the radiation. All aid has arrived to intended recipients since Victor and Maurice know and work with doctors in Chernihev (a city of 320,000 about 40 miles east of Chernobyl). Both Kubik and Frohn are members of the city of Chernihiv's Humanitarian Relief Distribution Board that determines how the aid is to be parceled out.
Ukraine is bankrupt and can hardly afford to care for the victims of the disaster and replace the damaged reactor from the accident that took place nearly 14 years ago. The terror from radiation is not only the problems of victims in Ukraine. It is our problem as inhabitants of a planet who must find a way to care for the health of our children and this Earth.Stories about this work have appeared in the London Daily Telegraph, The Indianapolis Star, Lafayette-Journal & Courier, and other publications. Victor Kubik has been interviewed on numerous radio talk shows to explain the needs of victims in a country that cannot care for them. Mr. Kubik & Dr. Pacelli have also appeared on television news programs so that there can be greater understanding about these problems and their solutions.
