Meanwhile the war in Ukraine drags on almost to two and a half years with the loss of more than half a million people in the most violent conflict since World War II. We are all weary of this war, but not as much as the victims caught in it. Missile attacks are barbarically targeting civilian populations. This is the relief work of LifeNets Ukraine from Khust in the West to points east for elderly and other vulnerable people. The following report is from Vlad Yurishko:
Hello Victor and Beverly.
In recent years, the Ukrainian government has made a lot of effort to make Ukraine a European country with Western-quality social security for the population.
Life for pensioners was not easy even before the war, but now that the country is under attack, most Ukrainians are living below the poverty line, especially pensioners. When the minimum pension is $60-80 per month, and food prices are as high as in the EU, not to mention utilities and medicines, pensioners are left to just survive.
Realizing these difficulties, we are trying to provide at least the minimum needs of those pensioners and disabled people who come to our attention, especially those who have no one to take care of them. Also to those who live in the Mother's House charitable institution. Concerned Christians have voluntarily taken on the responsibility to support lonely, abandoned, and sick people, and serve them not only physically but also spiritually.
In mid-May, 2024 we sent a truck with humanitarian aid from Germany, and part of this cargo was delivered by volunteers of the LifeNets Ukraine Foundation to the "Mother's House" in Slavuta, Khmelnytsky region. Earlier, we helped this institution when a Russian missile's shock wave damaged their windows. (https://lifenets.org/ lifenets-aid-news-from- ukraine-april-4-2023/)
We once again sincerely thank everyone who makes this work possible! May God bless you and all those who donate!
Sincerely,
Vladyslav Yurishko.
