On October 27, 2023, Hurricane Otis struck Acapulco with fierce intensity. Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico, is home to roughly 900,000 residents, many of whom rely on the city's tourism industry for their livelihood. Mexican news stations initially reported the sudden arrival of this powerful hurricane as a Category 8 storm, with winds reaching up to 225 miles per hour, hitting in the early morning hours without warning.
