As word spreads of the grass roots relief effort that began with a couple of Central Indiana businessmen, more and more people are getting involved. Contributions have come in from all over the United States. Local contributions have included enough goods to send three 40 foot containers, instead of just one in December, and to fund another
container for the January shipment.
In Terre Haute, Indiana the board of directors of the Greater Terre Haute Church Federation has joined the cause. In a presentation to the Church Federation Board, Jeff Osborn, who is an Elder in the United Church of God and a Church Federation Board member, explained to the Board what was happening with the Hoosiers for Honduras relief effort.
Because of the direct involvement of the United Church of God in the relief effort, Osborn was able to give assurances that all donations and contributions were being applied towards relief and assistance to the Honduras. After a short discussion those present voted unanimously to involve the Greater Terre Haute Church Federation and as much of the Terre Haute community as would help. Board Treasurer, Dr. Richard Pierard, agreed to contact the media to stimulate community interest in the relief effort.
In Dayton, Ohio a Church Congregation that learned of the relief effort over the Internet, offered to sponsor an Agricultural Specialist to go to the Honduras with a team that will be led by Dr. Martin Dixon. The rebuilding process will take at least a year, which is why the Hoosiers For Honduras relief effort is working to deliver relief shipments on a monthly basis. Agricultural Consultants can help bring more productive farming techniques to an area that is decades behind the United States in Agricultural development. And they can help to introduce alternative crop options that can greatly improve the recovery time of the country.
