Since 1996 we have committed ourselves to helping a private (NGO) clinic in Lilongwe, Malawi. We have regularly sent medicine and equipment to one of the poorest and most densely populated countries in Africa. Now we are helping another NGO in Balaka, Malawi.

Our current work has three phases that need support and funding. Please click on

1. The CONSTRUCTION of the new Malakia Clinic which will treat up to 150 patients a day and be a 24 hour center for birthing. Our goal is $26,000 for the construction phase.  CLICK HERE for more...  For latest progress CLICK HERE.

We have also committed to the construction of Chizeni (Heal Me) Clinic in Balaka, Malawi headed by Dr. Sam Chilopora.  Click here for more.

2. Regular shipments of MEDICINE Virtually no medicines are available to the Chondes in Malawi.  We ship medicine every three months. We purchase the medicine at 5-10% of cost and it is flown on a special humanitarian rate to Malawi from our supplier in Amsterdam.  Our budget for this phase of our work is $6,000 per year, which is $1500 per shipment which translates into about $15,000 to $20,000 worth of medicine for the clinic per shipment.

3. CONTAINER. Our shipment left on February 26, 2001 from Burnsville, Minnesota. Shipment was provided by the United States Department of Defense.  While we have had wonderful contributions of food and supplies, it will still cost us about $7,000. We have previously shipped a container and information about it can be seen by CLICKING HEREDyanne Dick in Portland has been coordinating a blanket collection drive for the container.
